Daniel had been out of work for 11 years when he was referred to the Restart Scheme in September. He was supported by Adrian in Salisbury who helped him to overcome his barriers and secure his first paid job in over a decade. Here’s Daniel’s account of his time on the Restart Scheme.
“This is just a message to say how much I appreciate the support you have given me in helping me gain employment. As you know, I suffer from Dyspraxia which means I am really challenged with my motor skills and my memory is poor. It means that even most of the more basic roles like checkouts at a supermarket or picking & packing and many cleaning positions are a real challenge.
“Often the more I’m under pressure the worse things get and it affects my confidence. Before joining the Restart Scheme, I managed just a short period of 3 months paid employment 7 years ago and nothing else since leaving school in 2010.
“Since I have been on the Restart Scheme, you have encouraged me to organise myself well to make things manageable as I appreciate a more structured approach. You have been really supportive in helping me organise myself well and increase my confidence levels. I now have a properly constructed CV, and you helped to set up an interview where I have now been offered a cleaning role!
“You prepared me really well and I was successful in achieving paid employment which is a major obstacle I have now overcome. This makes such a difference as I am now becoming more independent and I am already being trusted to work unsupervised, which makes a real difference that such trust has been placed in me.
“Your offer of ongoing support and help is invaluable to my confidence and means so much to me. I now have a commendation from the Building Management after just my first week in employment. Thank you for all your support, it has been so much appreciated by me and my family.”
