Rediscovering her passion
At the age of 55, Fran has had an impressive career history, from qualifying as a nurse over 30 years ago, to then enjoying a 31-year career in teaching as Head of Science. In October 2019, Fran left her teaching job in search for a role that would re-ignite her passion for nursing.
To support her through un-employment, Fran signed on for Universal Credit whilst she undertook her job search journey and researched into her options to get back into nursing. When the pandemic hit, Fran hit a wall with her job search and was referred to the JETS programme by her local Job Centre in October 2020.
She worked closely with her JETS Employment Advisor Amber, who supported her with CV checks, application processes and interviews, but experienced a few setbacks with her Return To Nursing course, which made her feel deflated.
Amber supported Fran through these hurdles and in December, Fran was invited to an online interview for the role of a Health Care Assistant at Derriford Hospital, for which she was successful and is excited to start her new role this month!
“I had brilliant support from Amber at Seetec Pluss. We had very regular meetings and although I was making my own progress through applications, it was great to have Amber there to re-focus me and to make sure that I was clear on my next steps.
“I felt brilliant when I got this job. It feels like the first real step back into becoming a registered nurse, as that is my long-term goal.”
The Work and Health JETS Programme is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions and the European Social Fund.
