“In March 2020, right at the start of the pandemic, I was put on the furlough scheme for my job in supplying for the hospitality sector. I was on furlough for 5 months before being made redundant, and at this time, I was low and confused at what I could do next.
“As I had worked in an area of supplying the restaurant and hotel market, there was not much hope with the pandemic worsening and this sector closing.
“My Work Coach recommended the JETS scheme to me and in December 2020, I was contacted by my Employment Advisor, Janet. Both Janet, and my Employability Trainer Jodie, helped me with my transition back into employment. With their regular contact, advice and guidance, the JETS scheme gave me all the support tools, training, and confidence that I needed to change my career.
“I am now working in the care sector, supporting vulnerable adults into independent living. This new career will open up future opportunities for me. The skills and knowledge that I’ve gained will help me to further myself into a long-term, sustainable career for the future.
“Without the JETS scheme, this would not have been possible, as I have learnt so much from IT skills, accredited courses, and access to equipment and new life skills that I did not have before.
“A year ago, I would never have imagined that I would be doing what I’m doing now, and I want to thank all those that have made this possible for me.”
The Work and Health JETS scheme is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions and the European Social Fund.
