When Jill Joined the Work and Health Programme she was lacking in confidence, unsure what direction to go in. She needed to digitally upskill but was lacking the means to develop, without her own laptop or PC.

Jill started working closely with her Employment Coach Kirsty, who after many one-to-one sessions identified her need to upskill, sourcing her a laptop to help. Kirsty then enrolled her onto the basic IT course that Activate Learning operate.

It was clear that Jill enjoyed every lesson  and found it “a real laugh” as well as educational. She also realised that she was a valued member of the group and once completed she had a great deal more confidence and knowledge.

The next step was for Kirsty to help Jill build a new CV which she used to apply for a job online, thanks to the new skills she had gained. She was successful in securing an interview!

Jill attended an interview preparation session with Kirsty, so that she felt fully ready, she got the job and was due to start work as a Carer. However, after reflection Jill decided the job was not for her, and  together with Kirsty they explored other options, including retail.

Jill attended a retail information session and spoke with the Employer Engagement specialist, Deborah, where she realised she would love to work for Waitrose, having been a very happy employee there before. After some searching, a role at the local Waitrose was found.

Jill and Kirsty worked through the application together and completed the assessment. A few days later Jill was invited to interview. With bated breath, Jill and Kirsty waited to find out if she’d been successful, as she was now even more excited to work there.

Jill was successful and got the job as Sales Assistant! Jill is so happy to embark on her career at a store of lovely colleagues, some of whom she already knows and cant wait to be trained up on the tills. She will also receive the In-Work support offered by Work and Health Programme to help her settle in.

Jill said: “I would like to say thank you for all your help, I got the job and am so happy”.

Kirsty said:  I wish you a happy and successful career at Waitrose Jill, you will be fabulous!
