Kerrie attributes her success to the guidance she received from the National Careers Service.

At a pivotal moment in her life, Kerrie connected with Maggie, a dedicated advisor at the National Careers Service.

This connection not only provided Kerrie with clear guidance but also instilled in her the confidence and motivation she needed to embark on a challenging yet rewarding journey toward a nursing career.

Initial consultation

Kerrie’s journey began with a crucial phone call to Maggie. “I first contacted by Maggie at the National Careers Service,” Kerrie recalls. From the outset, Maggie took the time to explore all of Kerrie’s options in detail, outlining the various pathways available to pursue a nursing degree.

This conversation was a turning point for Kerrie. “After my conversation with Maggie, I felt like a path had been placed in front of me. I felt positive and motivated,” she explains.

Maggie’s personalised approach was instrumental in setting Kerrie on the right course. By carefully considering Kerrie’s individual circumstances, learning style, and long-term goals, Maggie was able to recommend a path that suited her best.

Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the challenges ahead, Kerrie felt empowered to take on each step with confidence.

Educational milestones

Following the advice from Maggie, Kerrie embarked on a series of educational milestones that would prepare her for a career in nursing. Understanding that the road ahead would be long, she committed to taking it one step at a time.

Kerrie began by completing her Functional Skills qualifications in Maths. She successfully achieved Level 1 and then progressed to Level 2.

These qualifications were essential in building the foundational skills needed for further education. “In the subsequent years, I completed Maths Functional Skills Level 1 and proceeded to complete Level 2,” Kerrie states, highlighting the importance of these achievements in her journey.

With the basics in place, Kerrie then enrolled in an Access to Health and Social Care course. This course was a crucial step toward qualifying for a nursing degree, and Kerrie excelled in her studies, earning strong grades that reflected her dedication and hard work. “Just this year, I have completed my Access to Health and Social Care course with very good grades,” she proudly notes.

Looking ahead

Kerrie’s perseverance and commitment have paid off. She is now set to start her nursing degree at Plymouth University in September.

Kerrie attributes her success to the guidance and support she received from Maggie. “I am due to start nursing with Plymouth University in September, and it is all thanks to that phone call with Maggie,” she says, emphasizing the life-changing impact of that initial conversation.

Conclusion

Kerrie’s journey is a testament to the power of personalised career guidance.

With the support of the National Careers Service, she was able to navigate her way through the educational requirements and is now on the brink of achieving her dream of becoming a nurse.

Kerrie’s story highlights the importance of accessible and empathetic career advice, and it stands as an inspiring example of what can be achieved with the right support and determination.
