Maddie* was referred to the JETS scheme after being out of work for almost two years. She had been in a domestic violence relationship which resulted in her seeking refuge in another city and not being able to work.
When she was able to start looking for work again, she faced multiple barriers as she had a criminal record which was preventing her from any successful job starts. Now, Maddie is elated to be starting her new job and offering the exact help and support that she received herself with Seetec Pluss!
Here is Maddie’s* take on her Journey with JETS.
“My Employment Advisor, Shannon, was such a huge support to me whilst I was on JETS. Because of the Covid restrictions, all of our chats were over the phone, but she identified a huge barrier for me in finding work which was the fact that I didn’t have access to the internet.
“To help me with my job search, Shannon sourced the funding for me to get a new laptop and Wi-Fi dongle! Before joining JETS, I used to go to my local library and use their 45-minute slots on the computer to apply for jobs, which was really challenging as some applications took more than 45 minutes to complete. Having a laptop was a real game-changer for me and my job search; it meant that I could search and apply for jobs any time I wanted.
“Soon after, I was offered a job in a contact centre, which I did really enjoy and I was so happy to be making friends, as I didn’t know anyone when I moved here. However, I was elated when Seetec Pluss offered me a position with them as an Employment Advisor because that’s the job I really wanted!
“Seetec Pluss have been amazing in my journey to work. Not only did they support me in finding my confidence in work again, but they were completely unjudgmental of my circumstances and offered me a job with them, so I can help other participants who may benefit from my experience.
“I have such gratitude because I’ve realised that people have confidence in me. I feel like I’m in a position where I’m happy, independent and have something to look forward to. Everything will sort itself out eventually, even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time.”
Wise and inspirational words from Maddie*, Huge congratulations.
