Rabbia, a full time mum, joined the JETS programme having been of out work for 4 years.  She was ready to go back to work and saw an exciting role in a local school, she wanted to apply but needed support to make this a reality.

After her referral from the JCP, Rabbia’s main goal was to find a role that fitted around school hours, preferably within a school setting, but she had no prior experience within education.

She expressed to her Employment Advisor Josette, that the role of teacher’s assistant & lunchtime support was perfect for her, very convenient as she already lived on site. However, she had no idea what to do with the application and felt underqualified.

Josette supported Rabbia with her application, especially the cover letter as she writes below:

“Rabbia sent me the application form and we worked together to identify all of her transferable skills and experience as a parent. We used that as a basis for her cover letter on the application. This also gave Rabbia a better understanding of how to highlight her strengths and skills to job specifications in a Cover Letter

“She submitted the application and a few weeks later received feedback that she had been invited for interview! I scheduled Rabbia in for some last-minute interview preparation which supported her with her nerves and boosted her confidence.

“Upon attending the interview, the head mistress stated that the cover letter was the best that she’d seen and she would like to offer Rabbia the opportunity to gain classroom experience within her school, with the possibility of then securing a role down the line.”

Rabbia said about the interview:

“It went great the headmistress was so impressed by what she read that’s why she gave me the opportunity to come and speak to her more in depth thanks to Josette”

JETS also funded for Rabbia to gain her Level 2 TA qualification, whilst she gets classroom experience, as advised by the headmistress. She has also completed a Digital College TA course which Josette was able to enrol her in.

Rabbia now feels more confident regarding employment options and strategies towards achieving goals.

Josette has been great, I couldn’t have done it without her – very helpful, very organised, rang me on time for each appointment”

Amazing outcome Rabbia, congratulations
