Being out of work for a long period of time can have such a negative impact on your confidence, your mental health and your motivation to get back out there again. The Restart Scheme helps to support those who have been out of work for 9 months or more and need support to find their ‘spark’ again.
Emma was supported by our team in Bodmin on the Restart Scheme, “Before I met Claire at the Bodmin Seetec Pluss office, I had numerous jobs, but they never lasted. My confidence was low, I had no money, I was depressed, and my anxiety was bad. I didn’t go anywhere, and I had been on numerous courses that never resulted in a job.
“I was doing my English and Maths qualifications as something to get me out of the house, but I needed a job to earn money. I met Claire and we spoke about my barriers to work which included my confidence in applying for jobs and getting to the stages of interviews.
“Having met Claire a few times, I felt comfortable with her, she saw that I had a kind and caring outlook to life. I decided I wanted a career in support work, so she pointed me towards Brandon Trust. I applied without thinking that I’d get it, but I applied with help from Claire, which resulted in an interview!
“The interviewers were really impressed, and they offered me a position there and then! I started work a month later and I’m now a Trainee Support Worker. I have a lot more confidence and I’m able to provide for myself and get food and other things which I couldn’t do before.
“Without the referral from the Jobcentre and without pushing myself, I wouldn’t be where I am today. If someone said to me this time last year that I would be in employment I wouldn’t have believed it. I give a lot of thanks to the staff at Seetec Pluss. Within the space of just under a year, I’ve got my confidence back and I’m a different person to who I was last year.”
