Seetec Pluss were thrilled to host our ‘Building a Healthy Workforce’ event in Bristol on 26th May 2023, providing an opportunity for employers to hear about the benefits of providing a more inclusive recruitment process.

Attended by the local MP for Bristol West, Thangam Debbonaire, and Councillor Asher Craig, the event also involved an open jobs fair, where over 200 participants had the opportunity to meet with a wide range of local employers and discuss job opportunities.

Thangam Debbonaire MP, expressed her encouragement to employers to take a commitment of recruiting more inclusively:

“I urge employers to draw on the skills of people from all backgrounds. That’s how they’ll get the best talent. Good apprenticeships, training and development means stronger workforces who are more productive and more interested in their jobs. I’ll continue championing Bristol’s businesses and workers in Parliament.”

One event attendee, Tim Wheeler,65, who has Cauda Equina syndrome, shared his story and how Seetec Pluss have supported him on his journey to employment.

“When I came to Seetec, I started attending the Health and Wellbeing course in the office, and I believe that it’s given me more views on mental health and how to deal with it. It’s made me more confident so that when I go out and talk to people, I feel normal.

“Most people look at me and then walk away. I’ve been for lots of job interviews and had a knock back every time and it does knock your confidence.

“My Employment Adviser supported me to contact Teacher Active. We met, and they’re now interested in taking me on as an Exam Invigilator. I’m much happier now than I was this time last year.

“I’m welcome here at Seetec Pluss and I’m treated like a person and not like trash. I love coming in here, I’m always having a laugh and a joke with everyone.”

Ruth Hanson, Operations Manager at Seetec Pluss, said:

“Seetec Pluss’s purpose is to empower people to build their confidence, skills and move towards and into a career. Having a job is so important and something that many of us take for granted, it brings a sense of purpose, self-esteem and that all important salary lift and live the life that they so choose.

“But no one can do this alone. One of the most important relationships we have is with our employers – forward thinking and creative employers. Employers who are prepared to think a little differently when it comes to recruitment, and by doing so can reap the business benefits of being an inclusive employer.”
