Martin was referred to the Restart Scheme with our delivery partner in Cornwall, Reed in Partnership. At the time of his referral, Martin had been unemployed for 7 years and homeless for 4 years. Before then, he’d spent over 30 years as a Fisherman.

Shortly after coming onto programme, Martin was offered a temporary housing tenancy in a remote part of Truro. This meant that he was able to have a settled base and start to focus on other aspects of his life.

He regularly attended his appointments with Reed in Partnership and also met with their Employability Trainer. Together, they updated Martin’s CV and made it into a strong document that could be sent to prospective employers.

Martin worked closely with his JCP Work Coach and his Employment Adviser at Reed in Partnership and has now secured a permanent residency on his home.

Now, Martin is in the process of starting up his own computer repair business. Over the last year, he has been learning how to fix computers which is something he was unable to do before. His skills have drastically improved which he has developed by watching videos and taking guidance from friends. He can see a future of self-employment and is excited for where this may take him.
