Shauna joined the JETS programme last year, she felt quite isolated as hadn’t been in the area long and found the prospect of applying for jobs and attending interviews very daunting. She jumped at the chance of starting on JETS when it was offered to her by her Job Centre Plus Work Coach.

Below, Shauna’s Employment Advisor, Rachel describes her JETS journey.

“It was clear from the start that Shauna was lacking confidence which was affecting her motivation to look for work. Through a series of 1-2-1 sessions, a confidence course with our Employability Trainer and the Overcoming Job Hunt Anxiety course that Seetec were running in Truro, Shauna started to believe in herself.

“The turning point was definitely the course in Truro, Shauna said it made her realise, so many other people were also struggling with confidence and motivation. Especially when it came to job searching and applying, that it was ok to feel that way and that there were coping strategies available.

With her new found motivation we would spend our appointment time, completing applications and amending her cover letter to reflect the job roles that interested her. Off the back of those appointments Shauna was offered interviews at two nurseries local to where she lives.

We planned her route on how to get there and covered the cost of her train and bus travel and she attended an Interview Techniques session with one of our trainers, to make sure she felt prepared. Shauna felt both interviews went well and was lucky enough to be offered both roles, this was a real confidence boost and she was able to pick the job that suited her the most (it was a really tough decision as Shauna said they were both lovely nurseries).

Shauna is loving everything about her new job. JETS has supported her with funding for new work trousers and shoes and we have agreed that I will stay in contact with Shauna by calling her every two weeks for an update on how work is going.

Shauna said of her time on JETS:

“I felt comfortable contacting Rachel when I needed help, advice, or just someone to talk to. She has always been happy to help, support, and understand and has always gotten back to me on the day I’ve tried to get hold of her.

“On the day I went for my second job interview I fell over in the mud whilst on my way and called Rachel as I didn’t really know what to do. She was very supportive and listened to my rant about what had happened. She encouraged me to contact the Nursery and tell them what had happened, which I did. They offered me a new interview time with them and then I went on to get the job.

I don’t think I could have gotten as far as I have, as quickly as I have without Rachel’s help. I really do appreciate all her time, help, and support.  Thank you, Rachel and JETS”

Amazing work Shauna and Rachel- congratulations
