Job Fairs are great places to visit if you are hoping to start a new career. As well as being able to talk to lots of employers and training providers, you’ll often find that we have a stand there too.

They can get quite busy, and it’s always good to ‘go with a plan’, so we’ve put together some handy hints and tips to help you get organised and make the most out of your visit.

  1. GET READY: Check who will be there and make a list of the ones you want to visit. Then check out their website and make a list of questions that you want to ask them.
  2. MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION: Offer a handshake, make eye contact and use their name when you know it. Be sure to thank them for their time.
  3. TAKE NOTES: Take a notepad and pen with you and make notes so that you can read them back later. Get a named contact from the businesses you are interested in, ask them for a business card so that you can speak to them again. Speak to a careers adviser.
  4. FOLLOW UP: Take the next step and follow up with a phone call or connect with them on LinkedIn. Check out their social media pages for any other useful information. Stay in touch.

At a recent Job Fair, our team spoke to 170 people in just four hours. Leave yourself enough time and be prepared to hang around for a while.

When it gets to your turn, you’ll see why; we take as long as it needs to tell you about the support we have on offer and talk about the things we might be able to do to help you on your career journey. Everything is tailored toward you and nothing is rushed.

So if you’re heading to a Job Fair soon, come and say hi to the National Careers Service – you won’t miss us, we’ll be the ones in pink!
