This couple have requested anonymity, so for the purpose of this story we’ve called them M & P

After spending their lives working in Customer Service, the couple turned to National Careers Service to explore new opportunities;

“Being over 50, we decided we needed some new ideas about how we could develop our careers,” they told us.

“One thing we struggled with was knowing which parts of our CV to delete and what needed adding to make it look appealing.”

Emma, one of our career advisers who supported M & P, told us about the help and guidance she offered: “The main purpose of these appointments was to help M & P realise their potential and ensure they were confident with their next steps.

“We looked at many courses, including the Over-50s MOT and the Upskilling with IT beginners’ course.”

M & P were impressed by Emma’s professionalism during their sessions together: “She helped us redesign our CV and opened our eyes to different paths we could take,” they told us.

“She also sent us some job applications to review and apply for.”

After creating an action plan together, they started looking at courses which would help them progress: “Emma suggested a free computer refresher, which we are excited to start.”

New found confidence

The support that Emma and the National Careers Service offered really helped: “She gave us such a confidence boost, even though we are older, and she gave us so many ideas to get started with.

“We are looking forward to new challenges; thank you, Emma!”

M & P wanted to send a message to anyone thinking of using the National Careers Service: “Please don’t be nervous! They are so kind, patient, and understanding.

“They provide excellent service that never makes us feel judged during the appointments, and we will not hesitate to contact them again if we need more support.

“Thank you, National Careers Service!”

Since the couple turned to National Careers Service to explore new opportunities, they have both started new roles in the healthcare sector.
